Carbon Footprint of the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII)
Project developed by Solid Forest
At Solid Forest, we carried out a comprehensive project for the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) focused on the quantification, analysis, and management of its carbon footprint. The project covered the Chamartín and Majadahonda campuses, two of the most important facilities within the institute’s structure.
Project objective
The main purpose was to support ISCIII on its path towards responsible management of its emissions through:
- The development of the Emissions Reduction Plan.
- The official registration of the carbon footprint of both campuses.
- The identification of opportunities for energy improvement and impact reduction.
What exactly did we do?
1. Collection and analysis of energy data
We gathered and structured all the necessary information for calculating the carbon footprint: energy consumption, fuels, mobility, as well as other factors related to the operation of the centers.
2. Calculation of the carbon footprint
We applied recognized methodologies to obtain an accurate estimate of the GHG emissions from the Chamartín and Majadahonda campuses, considering scopes 1, 2 and—where appropriate—scope 3.
3. Development of the Emissions Reduction Plan
We designed a strategic plan with specific measures to reduce emissions:
- Improvements in energy efficiency.
- Optimization of consumption and internal processes.
- Renewable energy proposals and good practices.
4. Official registration of the carbon footprint
We managed the process of registration in the Carbon Footprint Registry of the Ministry, ensuring that the documentation met all the technical and administrative requirements.
Benefits for the ISCIII
- Greater control and transparency over its GHG emissions.
- Availability of a realistic and applicable action plan to reduce impacts.
- Compliance with the requirements of the Carbon Footprint Registry.
- Progress towards a more sustainable management model in its facilities.
Commitment to sustainability in the public sector
This project reinforces the collaboration between Solid Forest and public entities committed to climate action. The work carried out for the Carlos III Health Institute demonstrates how rigorous management of the carbon footprint can translate into real improvements in efficiency and sustainability.
