CCPA and the Decarbonization of Animal Nutrition
Measuring the Carbon Footprint in Animal Nutrition: CCPA Group's Path to Emission Reduction
Agri-food production today faces one of the greatest challenges of our time: ensuring global food security while reducing its environmental impact. In this context, animal nutrition and health play a key role, as they optimize productive efficiency, improve animal welfare, and contribute to more sustainable agricultural systems.
CCPA Group – Conseils et Compétences en Productions Animales, headquartered in Janzé (France), is an international benchmark in the development, research, and innovation in animal nutrition and health. Through a network of companies present in various countries, the group promotes advanced technical solutions for the livestock sector. These include NUEVAS TECNOLOGÍAS DE GESTIÓN ALIMENTARIA S.L. (NUTEGA) and NOVATION 2002 S.L. (NOVATION) in Spain, as well as DESENVOLVIMENTO E INOVAÇÃO NUTRICIONAL S.A. (DIN) in Portugal.
With the aim of advancing its sustainability and emission reduction strategy, the CCPA Group has collaborated with Solid Forest and Cavala in the calculation and monitoring of its carbon footprint. This year, a detailed calculation of the organizational carbon footprint of these three companies was carried out, applying a rigorous methodology that considers the regulatory, energy, and productive specificities of each country to evaluate the emissions from the various raw materials required for their production.
Our work involved collecting and analyzing the operational data of each organization to precisely identify the main sources of emissions throughout their activities. This analysis not only quantified the climate impact of each company but also laid the groundwork for the development of realistic and evidence-based emission reduction plans.
Furthermore, all obtained results were structured and adapted to the Bilan Carbone® format, a widely recognized French methodology for measuring greenhouse gas emissions. This process facilitated data standardization and allowed for the consolidation of the carbon footprint at the group level, providing a global overview of the impact of all its operations.
